2020: What A Ride

2020 has been a wild ride.

So many plans to be accomplished and so many not able to be done.

The first part of the year was doing recovery from my Abdominoplasty and Panniculectomy.

That actually went well and I was able to still keep walking soon after.

The doctors were happy with the progress and other than a single spot that is still needing to be oiled right by the belly button, all the scars are healed well and with minimal long term issues.

Right on top of the new location for the belly button keeps getting flaky and I still have to put something on it or it become irritated and acts almost like an infection.

I was still walking in February when I had my first event scheduled.

At that time COVID-19 hadn’t become a major issue yet and so we all went to it.

It was a 5K and I jokingly called it a -5K since it was well below 0ยบ when we stepped off to start it.

I carried my ruck and a flag for this since I wasn’t running anyway.

It was interesting to chat with people during the event.

So my list of events I was signed up for and their current status:

  • 20200208 - Valentine's Day TC 5K (done)

My new list of upcoming events:

  • 20200829 - Fargo Go For Challenge, 5K & Marathon
  • 20200918 - Ragnar Relay Trail WI

  • 20201018 - IMT Des Moines Marathon

Since I couldn’t do the Eagle Up Ultra, I did one based from home and tested myself to see what I could do in 24 hours.

While I had a goal of 100K, I didn’t quite make it.

I did make 91K so am really happy with that.

Couple of issues during the event and doing a long hill on each loop really smoked my legs.

I think if I had been at the real one, I would have made it with no issues.

Overall I am extremely proud of what I did and since it got into the papers, people got to read about veteran suicide and PTSD.

I even got some donations in my name for it.

Currently I have reset every running Personal Best/Personal Record I have.

Virtual Eagle Up Ultra 2020 Jun 6

The marathon one was during my virtual Eagle Up so I am not sure that is truly accurate and I might delete it since it might be from a longer run and have pauses during the run which means it really wasn’t a true marathon.

I am going to leave it for now since I am not sure and knowing it will be overwritten in August when I do the Fargo Marathon.

I have started my doctor appointments for my 2 year post surgery follow up.

So far I have done all the blood work and had my dietitian appointment.

All of my blood work is in the normal range except my hemoglobin.

It is still low and after talking to the dietitian, I have a tweak to my vitamin regimen to see if that helps.

We shall see how it goes.

I have 2 concerns with it, 1 is that it could signify anemia and 2 is that I can’t donate blood any more.

Doctor doesn’t think it is anemia but it is something I have to keep an eye on.

None of the other blood type checks show anemia so it is low on the concern level for now.

I think that is it for now.

This whole COVID thing kind of threw me off my game for a bit and I knew I should blog but just didn’t feel like it.

I was posting on FB a lot and I might go back and summarize those posts here at some point.

I do want to take the time to thank Elsolel for all of her support with my crazy recovery and time I have spent doing things.
