Major Goal Reached

Lots to talk about this blog.

I finished 2 of my 4 5k walks.

The first, Walk of the Mill on 20180908, was a fairly flat 5km event in my town for it's annual celebration.
I had a pessimistic goal of 90 minutes since I hadn't really done a full 5km.
I had an optimistic goal of 75 minutes since I had been walking but taking breaks while I did Pokemon Go.
What I did accomplish, much to my delight, amazement, and surprise was to finish in 59 minutes.
I probably could have gone a little faster, but I did push a fair bit.
I did remember to start my new Garmin.

On Sunday, 20180909, I did my virtual Travis Manion Foundation 5km.
For this one, I needed to wear a ruck since it was part of a GoRuck event.
I had a friend join me along with her toddler.
The pace was definitely slower than Saturday since I was feeling it a little bit and had tight legs.
The toddler made it over 4km before he had a melt down and she had to carry him the final bit with me pushing the stroller.
I could definitely tell I have not been training for rucking, my back and shoulders certainly felt it.
But I finished, got a couple pics, and had a great day with a friend and nice weather.

Next week, 20180916, Elsolel and I will be doing the AFSP 5km walk at Como Park.
I have been working on raising money but am still short of my goal.
My team has made their goal total but I am still short.
Help if you can by clicking this link to donate.
I really want to do something to help stop the 100 or more people that kill themselves every day.

Finally, 20180929, Elsolel and I will be walking at the Warrior 196 5km.
This event raises money to provide scholarships for students in district 196.
It is in the name of the 6 students that have died in the service to this country.
It is definitely an emotional event.
Team RWB will be there, as participants and with an informational booth.

It might say something that I am looking around for other events that I might be able to do.

I am also looking very hard at potentially doing a GoRuck Light next year.
There is a double Light for Cinco de Mayo with a Scavenger to follow.
I am thinking of signing up for the 2nd Light and then the Scavenger.
Light Challenge St. Paul Minnesota Saturday, 5.4.19 7:00 am
Scavenger Scavenger  St. Paul Minnesota Saturday, 5.4.19 3:00 pm
I might be up for the Light on Friday night but I am really not sure at this point.

I am also looking to do the Light on the July 4th weekend, the one that kicked my ass before.
I don't see it on the website yet, but another course I want to do is listed.
Active Shooter Intervention - Pistol Minneapolis Minnesota Saturday, 7.6.19 8:00 am
Active Shooter Intervention - FIGHT Minneapolis Minnesota Saturday, 7.6.19 5:00 pm
Counter Ambush Response - Advanced Pistol Minneapolis Minnesota Sunday, 7.7.19 8:00 am

Now for the big news.
Even bigger than the sub 1 hour 5km for me.
My weigh in on Sunday, 20180909, was under 300, for the first time in as long as I can remember.
I started this blog at about 315 in 2012.

After looking at my measurements and body composition I really do need to start doing some weight lifting.
Body weight and core training.
I am starting to lose more off my upper body and the numbers on the FitIndex show me losing core mass and muscle.
That was to be expected but not I need to work to not lose too much.
I found my kettle bells and it is sad how HEAVY they feel.
Glad I have some 15lb ones to start working with.
Hate to say it, but I might need to get some 10lb ones.

Pictures are still showing change but not as much from week to week.
The start to now pic is very telling, especially from the sides.
I have some pics from when I started this blog so I will be pulling them up next week to compare.
You can tell the skin stretch is there.
Not sure about insurance and doing a skin clean up but that is for down the road and am not going to worry about it right now.
I have talked to Elsolel and on days she doesn't work, I will make sure to plan my walk so that I can end up at the local Anytime Fitness.

Here are the pictures.

So Close

2 weeks since my last blog.
Was out of town for a family get together so no pics.

<RANT>
Who ever designed the Guardian Sensor for Medtronic was an idiot that obviously never had to use the sensor on a regular basis.
I used the Dexcom CGM with my Animas Vibe for years.
The Dexcom would last for at least 6 months and then you replaced it.
The Guardian sensor has to be recharged between every use.
This means I have to turn it off on my pump every week when I change it, if it lasts that long.
So far, the longest one has lasted has been to within 8 hours of completion and then it stopped responding.

Medtronic has a policy to replace sensors if they fail too early.
So far I have been on the pump since the 9th and have yet to have one last the full week.
Currently I am on sensor number 6.
</RANT>

Been doing ok and really working on the no drinking 30 before or after.
Even tho I have been "practicing" that for a couple months I really miss being able to drink during my meal.

I didn't lose much this week but think it is due to me eating crappy food.
I need to get back to eating better food, not as much processed stuff.
Elsolel wants to work towards eating more paleo, so we will be doing that in the future.
Not completely but avoid buying processed food, avoid pastas, breads, and stuff like that.

Really want to get under the 300 mark and had hoped this week to do it.
Maybe by next week especially if I eat right and get in my walking.

Walking:
My brother got a good deal on a Garmin 920XT for me.
Now that I am losing weight, I wanted an "athlete" watch.
Don't know that I will call myself one yet, but with the watch, I figure I can fake it until I make it.

On the 29th I got a chance to go out for a longer walk.
Walked over 3.5km and felt good.
I finished and knew I could have gone further.

Today, 20180902, I went out and thought I was going to be duplicating that walk.
When I got back, I found out I had gone 4.66km and easily could have gone 5km.

Since I have 2 5km events next weekend, this let me know that I can do those with no problem.
The one on Saturday is a local event 5km.

The one on Sunday is a virtual event for the Travis Manion Foundation..
I get a patch for this one.
This one I am required to carry a pack since it is a ruck.
Will see what I can carry but probably will be light due to physical limits at this point.

Then Elsolel and I will be doing the AFSP 5k on 20180916.
You can help us raise money by donating on my page.
When more than 100 people a day end their lives, we should do something.

Elsolel and I will be doing the Warrior 196 5k on 20180929.
This will be my 2nd time walking it, her 3rd.
Last year was too close to my knee surgery and I wasn't ready for it.

I have gotten down enough now and am able to move enough that I need to start adding strength training to my work outs.
Figuring out a route to walk in the morning that "ends" up near the Anytime Fitness near me so I can do strength stuff there and then walk the couple blocks to the house.

Yes, I shaved the beard.
Should I shave more?

Really happy that the fat free and muscle mass is staying steady but the overall weight is going down.
